This is a short case study about Lady, who came to see us with a small swelling that had appeared after she had managed to wound herself the week before.

The owner had been cleaning the wound and it had healed apart from this one area. Our vet, Emily examined Lady and decided to lance the swelling. Local anaesthetic was applied and the swelling was incised with a blade.

After some flushing, a small piece of wood came out of the wound. This is what we call a foreign body. Now the foreign material has been removed, Lady should make a full recovery.
